Humour

How surprise, timing, truth, tension, and release make people laugh.

I have liked making people laugh since I was a kid. In eighth grade, I went to boarding school away from my family and was bullied for different things. That experience made my skin thicker, my comebacks quicker, and my ability to take a joke much stronger.

I was the class clown in eleventh and twelfth grades, then joined the cultural forum in college. The more I tried entertaining people, the more fulfilling it felt. I also stepped into stand-up comedy; learning to read a room, land a thought, and recover when a joke misses is part of the attraction.

Humour can turn a difficult memory into a connection, but the person telling the story should stay in charge of what gets shared. I am still learning the craft and following comics whose timing, observation, and stage presence teach me something different.
